They had to make a trade to clear roster and salary-cap space before they could finalize the deal. Finally, late Thursday night, Minnesota officially signed Kuminga to his contract.“According to the NBA transaction log, Jonathan Kuminga officially signed his new contract with the Timberwolves today,” NBA insider Brett Siegel wrote.Kuminga is expected to be a major third or fourth option for the Timberwolves, giving Minnesota another talented offensive weapon. He will have an opportunity to thrive in a system alongside Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball.On Friday morning, Minnesota released an official statement confirming Kuminga’s signing and revealing the jersey number he will wear during the upcoming season.“The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has signed. forward Jonathan Kuminga. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released. Kuminga, 23, wrapped up his fifth season in the NBA, splitting time between the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors after being traded to the Hawks on Feb. 5,” the organization wrote. “Kuminga will wear #24 for the Timberwolves.”There is no reported significance behind Kuminga choosing No. 24, although he will turn 24 years old in just a month.
