The Cowboys won 39-31 this Saturday afternoon in Stillwater, Oklahoma. If anything, this victory shatters the image of the Ducks as national title contenders. That raises the question of whether the Ducks were truly national title contenders, and ex-LSU champion Breiden Fehoko has echoed it. For three to four seasons now, since Dan Lanning arrived at Eugene, they have been considered national title contenders, and while they managed to win a conference title in 2024, an appearance in the national championship game has remained elusive.Could it be that Lanning has been afforded too many chances? Former NFL player and LSU national champion Breiden Fehoko thinks as much, writing on X this Saturday:“Nobody has underachieved with more resources than Dan Lanning. All these interviews and speeches with nothing to show. Oregon will forever be known as the uniform school. It’s time for Oregon to go hire someone real,” wrote Fehoko on XOf particular worry during Saturday’s game was the performance of returning quarterback Dante Moore, who gave up the opportunity to join the NFL for a final season with Oregon. He only recorded 191 passing yards, with a completion percentage of 48.28%. He did manage to throw two touchdown passes. On the other hand, the Oregon defense did get turnovers from the Cowboys, intercepting two Drew Mestemaker passes. However, they still couldn’t stop Oklahoma State from marching down the field, allowing 554 yards, including a whopping 237 rushing yards. How has Dan Lanning done with the Oregon Ducks?During his four seasons as Oregon head coach, Dan Lanning has led the Ducks to 48 victories and eight defeats. For all intents and purposes, a very good record. During that time, he has also taken the Ducks to two College Football Playoff editions, reaching the quarterfinals once (2024) and the semifinals another time (2025).But the lack of championships is surprising. Not only have they not reached the national championship game, but they have only won one conference title: the 2024 Big Ten, Oregon’s inaugural season in the league. Lanning also led Oregon to wins in the Holiday and Fiesta Bowls in 2022 and 2023, respectively.Read More:Trouble for Kentucky After Will Stein Denounces “Sloppy” Scrimmage as Weather Becomes Talking Point“Bye Brian Santiago”: Fans Convinced of Issues Between Kalani Sitake and BYU AD After HC’s “Doing Most With Least” CommentCollege Sports Network has you covered with the latest news, analysis, insights, and trending stories in tennis, college football, men’s college basketball, women’s college basketball, and college baseball!
