Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has spent years trying to prove he can compete in high-level golf. This week, however, his latest attempt ended with an unexpected controversy. According to Golf.com, Romo was disqualified from a Korn Ferry Tour pre-qualifying event in Oklahoma after officials determined there was a problem with his scorecard. The news came on the same day Romo officially ended his longtime partnership with CBS Sports, Fox News reported. The Korn Ferry Tour serves as a pathway to the PGA Tour, and players must advance through qualifying tournaments to keep moving closer to professional golf’s biggest stage. Romo entered the event hoping to reach the next step, but questions arose after his final round score was reviewed, Bleacher Report said.Reports say one of Romo’s playing partners recorded a different score than the former NFL star listed on at least one hole. Another person monitoring the group also believed there were additional scoring differences. Tournament officials reviewed the information and ruled that Romo had signed an incorrect scorecard. Under golf rules, that results in an automatic disqualification, NBC Sports noted.Officials said Romo accepted the decision and handled the situation professionally. Golf.com reported that he likely would not have advanced to the next qualifying stage regardless of the ruling. The setback comes several months after Romo’s OWI arrest in Wisconsin and his recent departure from CBS. In a statement, Romo said he plans to focus on his health and family before deciding what comes next in his career.Read the original article on MassLive.
