For much of his start on Saturday afternoon, getting to two outs was not the problem for Taj Bradley.Getting the third one proved to be much harder.Bradley, coming off a string of solid starts before the break, gave up five runs in Saturday’s 6-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. All came with two outs in the inning, starting in the first when the starter allowed a solo home run to Simley grad Michael Busch. The Twins (48-49) responded in the bottom of the inning with Kody Clemens’ first home run of the day, a solo shot to right field off left-handed starter Matthew Boyd. But the Twins’ offense mostly stagnated after that as the Cubs (55-43) took off, scoring a pair of runs off Bradley in both the second and third innings. All told, Bradley gave up seven hits and walked three, dealing with traffic for the entirety of his start. He did not throw a clean inning in the five-inning outing as the Cubs put pressure on him all day.The Twins couldn’t do the same to Boyd, who allowed just Clemens’ home run and two other hits in his six-inning start. Clemens provided the Twins’ only other run of the game, as well, hitting his second home run of the day in the seventh inning. Like the first, it was also a left-on-left blast, this one off of former Twins reliever Caleb Thielbar, a Northfield native. It was the third multi-home run game of his career and second this season for Clemens, who now has 18 on the season, second on the team behind only Byron Buxton. His career high is 19, set last year. After Bradley, both Mike Paredes (two innings) and Kendry Rojas (one) got some work. Paredes, who had been starting while Bailey Ober was on the injured list, had not pitched in a game since July 3, and Rojas hadn’t made an appearance since July 9.Related Articles Twins free-agent-to-be Ryan Jeffers not concerned with trade speculation Three solo homers power Saints to victory Twins beat Cubs, reach .500 for first time since April Back from All-Star Game, Byron Buxton progresses toward return What’s the cost of Twins vs. Saints?
