​Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty ImagesNew England Patriots QB Drake Maye addressed his poor performance in their Week 1 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL season opener.Maye was among the finalists for the 2025-26 NFL MVP due to his incredible performances leading the Patriots to a 14-3 record and then to Super Bowl LX.However, Maye’s first outing of the season went badly, as the Patriots lost 13-10 to the team that beat them in the Super Bowl and lost their starting QB, Sam Darnold, to injury within the first five snaps.Drake Maye slams his performance as unacceptableMaye spoke to the media after the loss, calling his performance unacceptable, primarily discussing the game-losing interception he threw in the final quarter.“It was something where we had the sort of protection where we were cutting. I was trying to get rid of it, but then realised that Matt isn’t out there in the back, and I didn’t put enough on it to get it out. It was unacceptable. We could have sent it to overtime at the worst, and the only thing I could do was turn the ball over.”The final interception came on 3rd-and-5 when Maye threw a pass on the backfoot for Mack Hollins in the end zone.The Patriots could have gone for a slight progression or a field goal to tie the game and go to OT, but Maye’s gamble pass led to an easy interception for Josh Jobe to seal the result.This was one of Maye’s three interceptions in the game, as the QB looked uncomfortable down the stretch despite the game being within reach.Drake Maye’s worst career performanceThe final interception is all most are talking about, but Maye had a terrible game by the lofty standards he set last season.Photo by Jane Gershovich/Getty ImagesThe 24-year-old QB went 22-for-33 on passes for 178 yards and one touchdown.
