After wandering around the league, Landry Shamet appears to have found a long-term home with the New York Knicks. Heading into the 2025-26 season, Shamet was in limbo as he competed for a deal, and when Malcolm Brogdon unexpectedly retired, Shamet seized his chance to play for the Knicks.
Fortunately for Shamet, head coach Mike Brown valued his impact as a shooter and a positive defender. He played a pivotal role as the season unfolded, eventually emerging as one of the first players off the bench during the championship run, serving as the Knicks’ resident knockdown shooter.
Shamet may have averaged only six points per game across the playoffs, but he was a crucial part of the rotation. He excelled most during the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, delivering a standout performance with a historic 91.7% shooting clip, going 11-for-12 from three-point range against Cleveland. He remained impactful in the NBA Finals, even as the spotlight leaned toward Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and OG Anunoby. Still, Shamet understood his role, and that understanding has earned him a multi-year home in New York.
Shamet signed a four-year, $24 million contract to stay with the Knicks. The deal includes solid structure, with only the first two years fully guaranteed and the final two years partially guaranteed. Despite potential challenges in the latter years, this is a deal Shamet had been pursuing, and he has impressed people across the Knicks organization, including team president Leon Rose.
“We are thrilled to have Landry back with our organization. His shooting, defensive versatility, and willingness to do whatever the team needs made him an invaluable part of our championship success last season. We are excited to continue this journey together,” Rose said in a statement about Shamet’s extension.
