​University senior Nathan Tillis reached the pinnacle of bowling.Tillis bowled 12 consecutive strikes during a varsity match against Matanzas on Aug. 26 for his first-ever perfect game and the first by a Titan since Jonathan Darbyshire’s 300 a decade ago in 2016.University coach Scott Gill said the entirety of Palm Coast Lanes had “gone silent” by the time Tillis reached the 10th frame. Despite the watchful eyes of spectators and pressure to complete the sport’s crowning achievement, Tillis bowled the last three strikes to fill his overhead screen with Xs.”Watching an entire bowling center stop what they are doing to support a high school athlete chasing perfection is a moment you never forget. Nathan has worked incredibly hard, and seeing the pride on his parents’ faces was amazing,” Gill said in an email sent to the News-Journal. “This 300 game, combined with our team’s flawless 3-0 start to the season, shows just how special this group of young men is. It is amazing to watch athletes from all other competing schools pause and actively support and cheer on someone from another team hoping to see them accomplish this individual goal. It was a tremendous moment highlighting the sportsmanship of our community.”Tillis joins Mainland’s Kory Driver (2020) and Walther Lents (2020), Seabreeze’s Brayden Barnes (2023) and Dalton Boice (2023), Flagler Palm Coast’s Emma Pezzullo (2023) and DeLand’s Ransom Fogle (2025) among Volusia-Flagler bowlers to throw perfect games since the turn of the decade.Tillis, the FHSAA’s 10th-place overall finisher in 2025, is averaging 217 pins per game early into his senior season.
