​Taysom Hill has made the decision to step away from the New Orleans Saints, the quarterback, tight end, slot receiver, punt protector and halfback announced in a statement through the team. This was expected after Hill listed his Metairie home for sale back in May and moved his family back to Utah, but now we’ve heard it from the man himself. While Hill said he doesn’t know what’s next for him, he did say that he owes it to New Orleans to express his gratitude before figuring it out.Hill’s ability to make plays as a passer, rusher, and receiver while covering punts and kickoffs created a skill set not seen in generations. He’s the only player in the Super Bowl era to gain 1,000 or more yards on the ground and through the air (both as the passer and receiver). Between 118 regular season matchups and six playoff games, Hill has scored 59 touchdowns: 34 as a rusher, 13 as a receiver, and 12 times throwing the ball himself. He also went 7-2 as a starting quarterback from 2020 to 2021. All told, Hill logged 2,588 snaps on offense and 1,363 snaps on special teams. He’s come a long way and overcome a ton of adversity: multiple season-ending injuries at BYU (a 2012 knee injury, a broken leg in 2013, a 2015 Lisfranc fracture in his foot, and a hyperextended elbow in 2016), not being drafted in 2017, and being cut by the Green Bay Packers as a rookie free agent before the Saints picked him up. He lost a 2021 training camp quarterback competition with Jameis Winston and kept his chin up to help the team however he could. He earned snaps on offense by putting in the work on special teams and blocking for his teammates, and made the most of his opportunities when he got them.
