​The New Orleans Saints wide receiver corps was shaken up by the news of Ja’Lynn Polk’s sudden retirement on Sunday. Polk, 24, had been competing for snaps on the second-string offense ahead of guys like Trey Palmer and Bub Means and had the backing of quarterback Tyler Shough. But Polk decided to unexpectedly hang up his cleats after missing two days of training camp practices with what the team said were “personal reasons.”It’s a disappointing end to his time in New Orleans after the Saints traded with the New England Patriots to acquire him, but they didn’t give up much. New England swapped its 2028 seventh-round pick for the Saints’ sixth rounder in 2027. Getting a pick back a round later isn’t a bad deal for a former second-round draft pick like Polk. It’s just a shame he never got into a game to show what he could do. At least the Saints have plenty of other hands in the receiving room.
