With the 2026 college baseball season in the rear-view, the transfer portal is heating up. USC took a notable hit when designated hitter/catcher Augie Lopez chose to enter the portal. But he isn’t the sole departure for the Trojans, who have seen several players exit the program since their season ended in the super regionals.
On the mound, USC has lost several key contributors. True freshmen Diego Velazquez and Gavin Lauridsen announced their intentions to transfer, joining a group that includes Ben Cushnie, Garren Rizzo, Michael Ebner, Matthew Morrell, and Jake Sekany, all of whom will continue their college careers elsewhere.
The position player departures have been just as impactful. Catchers Richard Tejeda and Jarrett Sabol, infielder Maddox Riske, and outfielders Nolan Eberwein and Will Stickney have also entered the transfer portal.
Coming off what was perhaps its best season in more than two decades—advancing to the Chapel Hill Super Regional—USC head coach Andy Stankiewicz now faces the task of replacing substantial production both on the mound and at the plate this offseason as he aims for another deep postseason run. This summary references the same report from Trojans Wire, which highlighted USC’s notable transfer portal exodus.
