The 2025-2026 college athletics season is now complete, bringing the Directors’ Cup race to a close. The Directors’ Cup, awarded each year to the school with the best overall performance across NCAA championships in all sports, crowns the most well-rounded athletic program. Last season, USC came up just short of the top spot, finishing runner-up in the standings. This year, the Trojans’ performance dipped slightly compared to 2024-2025, yet they still achieved another top-ten finish, landing in seventh place.
This result marks USC’s first appearance in the top ten in consecutive seasons since the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 campaigns. Since the Directors’ Cup began tracking results, USC has secured top-ten finishes nine times and has cracked the top five six times since the 2014-2015 season, but the school has yet to win the overall award. In fact, only three schools have claimed the Directors’ Cup title historically. North Carolina captured the inaugural trophy in 1993-1994, followed by a long period of Stanford dominance that lasted for roughly a quarter-century. Since the 2020-2021 season, Texas has emerged as a major power, reclaiming the title this year as well.
Among USC’s highlights for the season was the spectacular achievement by the women’s water polo team, which captured the national championship. Within the realm of the major team sports, baseball stood out by delivering a surprisingly deep postseason run, advancing to the program’s first super regional in 21 years. This camaraderie of accomplishments across different sports helped sustain USC’s overall standing and contributed to the seventh-place finish in the Directors’ Cup standings.
