There’s a new owner taking the reins in Seattle, a development that marks a notable shift in leadership for the Super Bowl champions just months after their dramatic victory. On July 11, the long-anticipated sale of the Seattle Seahawks was announced for a record-breaking 9.6 billion dollars, going to a group led by Vinod Khosla, a venture capitalist who also holds a minority stake in the San Francisco 49ers. The announcement immediately positioned the Seahawks for a league vote before the sale could be finalized and the control fully transferred.
Yet, almost as soon as the ink dried on the deal, questions emerged about who would actually run the team. The Seattle Times reported that a memo distributed to NFL clubs on a recent Saturday clarified that Khosla himself would not be the day-to-day operator of the franchise. Instead, the ownership would be governed by his wife, Neeru Khosla, who is slated to become the controlling owner of the Seahawks. In addition, their son Neal Khosla is expected to play a substantial role in the organization. The sale thus contends with a family-driven leadership structure at the pinnacle of a franchise that currently holds the status of defending Super Bowl champions.
Neeru Khosla, Vinod’s wife, brings with her a long history of work at the intersection of education and technology. The couple has been married since 1980, and Neeru is anticipated to become the controlling owner of the Seahawks. She is also the co-founder and chair of CK12 Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming K-12 education. CK12 Foundation emphasizes the integration of artificial intelligence and open multimodal content to broaden access to high-quality educational resources. Its stated aim is to “advance K-12 STEM education by leveraging the power of AI and open multi-modal content,” with the organization claiming that its AI-powered tools—such as Student Tutor and Teacher Assistant—along with open content, help remove barriers to access and equity by delivering top-tier educational material at no cost.
Neeru’s passion for education has roots in her upbringing in India, where her parents allocated as much as 70 percent of their income toward educating their three children, a detail highlighted by Forbes. She immigrated to the United States at 25 and pursued molecular biology studies at San Jose State University. After a stint as a cancer researcher at Stanford Medical School, a transformative visit to a Harlem elementary school in 2005, which she described as “heartbreaking,” spurred her to shift toward education. She subsequently earned a master’s degree in education from Stanford and founded CK12 Foundation in 2007, channeling her energy into educational equity and innovation.
Neal Khosla, Vinod and Neeru’s son, is one of their four children and the only son. He leads as the CEO and founder of Curai Health, a company that operates as an AI-powered virtual clinic and telehealth platform. In addition to his entrepreneurial work, Neal is expected to assume a leadership role with the Seahawks once the sale is formally completed, contributing to the franchise’s strategic direction and potentially shaping its approach to technology-driven operations.
With the sale entering the league-vote phase, the Seahawks’ ownership transition is entering a new chapter that centers on a family-led leadership model at the highest level of the franchise. As the team continues to navigate life after winning Super Bowl 60, the arrangement signals a distinctive blend of sports, philanthropy, and technology as the new owners prepare to steer a storied organization into the next era.
