DETROIT — There aren’t too many lists or polls yet, signifying who has been the best free-agent signing this season by an NHL team. But if there were, Viktor Arvidsson would be near the top of the list. The Red Wings signed Arvidsson on July 1 to essentially replace Patrick Kane, who moved on to Chicago. So far, Arvidsson has been more than an adequate replacement.Arvidsson didn’t get on the scoresheet in the 5-4 loss against St. Louis on Saturday, Oct. 31. But with 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in 14 games, Arvidsson has been a point per game player who has ably filled his role.Arvidsson felt the Wings were a good fit, having played for coach Todd McLellan when the pair were with the Los Angeles Kings.”Just Todd and that kind of thing,” Arvidsson said of what appealed to him. “They needed some five-on-five scoring, and I saw myself providing that and some experience. I’m just trying to do my part and work hard and try to go to the net as much as I can.”Arvidsson has always been an effective player around the net, but the Wings are seeing why each and every game. There’s a ferocity, a will, and determination to the get to the tough areas and find any loose pucks that are lying aroud.”He’s an energizer,” McLellan said. “There’s no neutral. You’re either giving off energy and making others around you excited and energized, or you’re sucking it out. There really is no neutral.”If you’re on the positive side, the more guys we can have on the positive side, the better off we are. Arvy’s indicator is almost always on the positive side because he does do those things. He’s fearless, goes to the paint. He knows where he has to go to score goals.”If I’m one of the others on our team or any team and I haven’t scored in a while, I probably pay attention to him.”Sandin-Pellikka back in Grand RapidsIt was bound to happen with the way defenseman Axel Sandin-Pellikka was being used — or rather, not being used.Sandin-Pellikka had only played in seven games, with one assist, and was averaging 12 minutes, 42 seconds of playing time. The development, and impressive play, of rookies Anton Johansson and William Wallinder pushed Sandin-Pellikka down the depth chart and the 2023 first-round draft pick needs to play. So, the Wings sent Sandin-Pellikka to Grand Rapids and recalled veteran Jacob Bernard-Docker.McLellan wanted Sandin-Pellikka to see more game action, but the Wings’ current lineup wasn’t going to allow it.”We’re probably not dealing with it very well because he has been sitting and Axe needs to play now,” McLellan said. “We also have to make decisions based on our lineup and we like what we’re seeing from some players and how they’re playing together. So unfortunately, when you don’t go 11 (forwards and seven defensemen), there’s a D-man that sits out. When you go 12 (forwards) and six (defensemen), you have two (defensemen) sitting out.”It’s been tough. He has to play.”Ice chipsSaturday’s loss to the Blues was the first game the Wings have lost i
