Summer has brought a striking figure into the spotlight: 250. As America marks its 250th birthday this year, that milestone has become a thread linking countless stories and celebrations across the season. At the Battle Creek Enquirer and USA Today, we’re leaning into that theme in our own way. The Battle Creek Enquirer joined forces with other USA Today Network newspapers to honor the United States’ 250th birthday by listing the top 250 athletes from across the state, a compilation you can view organized by region.
Locally, we’ve crafted our own distinctive list, spotlighting the top 250 athletes from Battle Creek city schools. This is Battle Creek’s 250. To keep it digestible, we’re presenting the rankings in five installments, each focusing on the top 25 male or female athletes from the five traditional core city schools. These athletes stood out throughout their high school careers and continued to shine beyond, and each list will be arranged in alphabetical order. Enquirer readers will get the opportunity to decide who should be No. 1. We recognize that some worthy names may not appear on the initial rosters, and we’ll incorporate write-in options in our poll to see which additional athletes merit consideration.
In this edition of Battle Creek’s 250, we present the top 25 female athletes of all time at St. Philip. Below is the candidate list for Battle Creek’s 250—representing St. Philip in girls’ sports. Before you cast your vote, read the story behind why each athlete earned a place on the list in our Battle Creek’s 250 feature online. Voting closes on July 16.
