​The Alabama high school cross country season is around the corner, and Gadsden-area standouts are getting ready to make their names heard.The volleyball season can begin on Aug. 20 in Alabama, with many starting that day or over the weekend in an opening-weekend tournament. The playoffs start with section meets Oct. 30-31. The state meet is Nov. 7.Last year, Tanner Griggs from Southside won Player of the Year before graduating leaving the door open for a new standout to take the tops honor.
