   ​You can make the argument that, with the talent distribution, there is no such thing as a true upset in the Cape Cod Baseball League.However, If there is, Wednesday night had maybe the biggest one of the season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Wareham Gatemen, who came into the day tied for the worst record in the league, beat the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, owners of far and away the best record, 1-0 in what qualifies as a shocker.Wareham improved to 9-17 with the win, while Yarmouth-Dennis fell to 20-5-1.In a pitcher’s duel, the Gatemen shut the Yarmouth-Dennis offense down. Sahil Patel (Ohio State) and Jake Schweitzer (Louisville) combined on the shutout for the Gatemen. Patel went five innings, allowed one hit, walked two and struck out four. Schwietzer went four innings, allowed one hit, walked two and struck out three. Patel picked up the win to improve to 1-0, while Schweitzer earned hi second save of the season.Wareham scored the only run of the game in the top of the fifth inning. Tony Lira (Arizona) came home on a wild pitch.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCade O’Leary (Florida State) started for the Red Sox. He went four innings, allowed three hits, walked none and struck out three. Noah Franco (Texas Christian) went two innings, allowed one unearned run and struck out three. Rhett Vaughn (Florida State) struck out five in three innings.Also in Cape Cod Baseball League action:The Whitecaps (17-7-1) beat the Kettleers (9-15-2) as they led virtually from start to finish.Charlie Willcox (Georgia Tech), Tate DeRias (Miami) and Zach Kmatz (Oregon State) combined on the shutout for Brewster. The three scattered three hits, walked just three and struck out six, with five coming from Willcox.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBrewster scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Jacob Lee (Virginia Commonwealth) singled to left field to bring home a run. Jamie Laskofski (William & Mary) scored on a passed ball to give the Whitecaps a 2-0 advantage.The Whitecaps added to their lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. Terrence Kiel II (Texas A&M) hit an RBI single to left field. Michael Torres (Miami) scored on a sacrifice fly. Laskofski doubled to bring in another run.
