​TOPEKA (KSNT) – Washburn football is looking for its first win over Nebraska-Kearney since 2019. The Ichabods are coming off a 14-10 win over Central Oklahoma that improved them to 1-1 in MIAA play. This week, Washburn hits the road to take on Nebraska-Kearney, a team that hasn’t won a single game all season. “I’ve told our team all week, they’re the best 0-3 team in the nation,” Washburn football Head Coach Zach Watkins told 27 Sports. “They’ve lost three games bye 14 points all to good teams. They haven’t lost to any quote on quote bad teams. They’ve lost to good football teams.”The Lopers are 0-3 with their most recent loss at No. 17 Emporia State. Despite the Lopers having a winless season so far, two of the three Loper losses have been under three points. Which includes a 21-20 loss to Wayne State and 24-21 loss to Chadron State. “Kearney is a good team. They are probably the best 0-3 team that we are going to see,”Watkins said. “They got a really good quarterback, really good defense, offense overall. It’s going to be a battle headed up there to Kearney. It’s a long travel up there and we are going to have to bring our A game.”Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
