Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe will meet for the fifth time later this week, in what is inarguably the biggest clash of their respective careers. After all, whilst both have competed in Grand Slam semi-finals before, neither will have felt as confident heading into one as they will now, against one another. That alone should prove indicative of just how closely matched and therefore entertaining this encounter should be, under Arthur Ashe Stadium lights. This will not be their first meeting, but as noted, it could prove pivotal in their respective careers. For Frances Tiafoe, it does feel like his chances are diminishing. He later admitted that, whilst it’s always painful to lose, he departs New York full of confidence and content with his run.Ben Shelton’s head-to-head record vs Frances TiafoeThese comments came after the only match that Tiafoe has ever won over Shelton, with their head-to-head record making for interesting reading ahead of this upcoming showdown. And, there’s no denying that this will surely be the most important of the lot.Interestingly, all four of their matches have been played on home soil, with Shelton winning their first-ever match in the 2023 US Open quarter-final.Then, meeting in the Houston final the following year, it was the 23-year-old who won again.Tiafoe got his revenge later in 2024, beating him in the US Open Round of 32, before Shelton then beat him again, most recently, in the 2025 Washington quarter-final.Now, there is much more at stake.
