What Charles Huff said after practice on Saturday

Charles Huff met with the media on Saturday after practice, and he covered multiple topics, including when he will announce a starting quarterback. The Tigers start their season in week zero against UNLV, so they’re only two weeks away from the first game of the season.Huff said that the challenge the team will be facing over the next week is when to start opponent prep. He said that the staff needs to find the right time to not get ahead of completing camp, while also giving them enough time to be prepared for the Rebels. Here’s what else Huff said at his presser. Two simultaneous scrimmages:Huff said that the team scrimmaged on Saturday, but they ran two at the same time. One was the older more game ready guys, and the other was the younger more developmental guys.He said that it gave the staff an opportunity to see different things from the players and evaluate more players without having guys standing around.“We did something a little bit different that I’ve done in the past where we had an older guy and a younger guy scrimmage going on at the same time,” Huff said. “Which allowed us to get a few more reps. Which allowed us to evaluate a little differently because you don’t have as many guys standing around, and you don’t have those older guys standing over there and yelling to the younger guys what to do. So, it will allow us to go back and watch the film and really see who can play situational football, who can play plays in a row, who can play a drive, who knows it’s third down.”Toughness:One of the words of fall camp has been toughness. Huff has raved about the team’s toughness, and he continued to talk about it on Saturday.“They’re tough,” Huff said. “I don’t know how many games we’re going to win, but it’s going to be a dogfight when you play us. Now, you may beat us by 100, but we’re going to keep getting back up off the mat.”A team with a lot of toughness can thrive, especially in late-game situations, and it appears that the head coach is hoping his guys lean on that when things get tough. He also said that those are the type of guys that he recruits, and its safe to say he’s impressed with how those players have answered the call during camp.“I said it early in the spring, or maybe early in camp, we haven’t had to kick them in the butt to get them to go,” Huff said. “To me, that’s a testament to the type of kids we recruit. You have to love football to play for me because it’s hard.”When will the starting QB be named? Most fans are waiting to hear who the starting quarterback will be, but it looks like they will be waiting until August 29. Huff said that the team has a date when they will learn who the starting quarterback is, but he plans to keep the information private and use it as an advantage for the first game.“The team will know before you guys do,” Huff said. “You guys won’t know until they flip the coin, and they say ‘offense up.’ But, the team will know.
