​With an open roster spot, the Oklahoma City Thunder added a new face. Well sorta. For the first time in years, they’re playing the restricted free agent game. They signed Denver Nuggets’ Spencer Jones to a two-year, $12 million offer sheet.So, what exactly is an NBA offer sheet? It’s a contract that restricted free agents sign. Their original team will have 48 hours to either match it or see them leave for a new basketball home. In this case, the Nuggets will have until 10:59 p.m. CT on Sunday, July 26 to make a decision.Offer sheets are only a possibility for restricted free agents. After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft, Jones spent two seasons on the Nuggets. He eventually worked his way up from a two-way player to getting converted to a standard deal in Feb. 2026.Jones averaged 5.5 points on 50.4% shooting and 3.3 rebounds this past season. He shot 39.6% from 3 on 2.2 attempts. The 25-year-old was a starter in 37 out of his 64 regular-season games. Because of Denver’s financial crunch to avoid the second apron, it’ll be interesting to see if it matches OKC’s offer sheet. Right now, I’d lean towards no. But I think it’s a coin toss.The Thunder seldom play the restricted free agent game. But Jones provided a unique opportunity. He’s clearly an NBA bench piece. And his undrafted status helped him hit the open market sooner than most players of his status.
