Rahm, the 2023 Masters champion, faced significant trouble at three over par, while Hatton, who tied for third at this year’s Masters and finished seventh at the U.S. Open in June, was more secure but still not entirely safe. He shot even par in his first round and entered the day five shots behind the leader.
Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark, the defending Masters and U.S. Open champions, were in strong position, but Aaron Rai, the PGA Championship winner, faced the threat of a missed cut as Round 2 began. At the start of Round 2, the cut line stood at 1 under par. Players scoring 1 under par or better would qualify for the weekend if this holds. DataGolf projections suggested the final cut line would be 2 or 3 under.

Of the 156 entrants, 65 players were guaranteed to make the cut, with the possibility of more due to ties. Last year’s cut fell at 1 under with 79 players advancing, and this year’s numbers could shift as more players complete their rounds.
