‘What Is Everyone So Afraid of?’ — NFL Podcaster Calls Out ESPN, Media’s Silence on Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel Scandal

By admin — In News — July 12, 2026

Dianna Russini’s alleged relationship with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel remains a dominant topic in NFL offseason chatter. The controversy has lingered for months and drew even more attention after Russini stepped away from The Athletic on April 14. Since then, she has largely stayed out of the public eye, leaving many questions unanswered. Tony Farmer, the host of the Last Men Standing podcast, has publicly criticized ESPN, other media outlets, and various figures for their handling of the situation.
On his X account, Farmer questioned why ESPN and several major media organizations have remained relatively quiet about the Russini-Vrabel controversy. One of his central concerns concerns the Associated Press. He wrote, “Associated Press – won’t release ballots,” and added, “ESPN – mostly silent, Mike Vrabel – silent for weeks, Dianna Russini – haven’t heard from her since resignation, NFL – one very small statement.” Russini was one of the 50 voters for the NFL Coach of the Year award, which Vrabel ultimately won. While the AP published every voter’s ballot the prior year, it chose not to release Russini’s ballot from the previous season. This decision has fueled ongoing debates about how the situation is being handled.
Farmer noted that he reached out to the AP reporter who covered Russini’s resignation 74 days earlier, but did not receive a response. The controversy began when Page Six published photos in early April showing Russini and Vrabel holding hands at an adults-only resort in Arizona. Shortly after, additional photos and videos circulated online, some dating back to 2020 and appearing to show the pair allegedly kissing inside a New York City bar, prompting questions about the longevity of the alleged relationship.
The timeline also drew scrutiny toward ESPN, which was connected to the ongoing discussion because Russini had worked for ESPN while Vrabel coached the Tennessee Titans. Despite renewed attention to those past associations, ESPN has not issued a formal response, contributing to the silence that Farmer continues to question. Yet Farmer’s critique extends beyond ESPN and the AP. In the same X post, he questioned why several prominent individuals and organizations have remained quiet. He wrote, “Adam Schefter – hasn’t tweeted ‘Russini’ since pre-April,” and he added, “Mike Silver – See Adam Schefter, Athletic – Still no findings, Robert Kraft – silence, Steve Levy – won’t address Russini tweet, Jets – won’t address Russini’s Morgan Moses tweet, Eagles – won’t address A.J. Brown tampering concern, Daboll, KOC, J.J. – won’t address bodycam footage, Pats beat writers – won’t ask tough questions, What is everyone so afraid of?”
The fluctuating attention to these developments has continued to prompt debate about transparency and accountability in how major media outlets cover sensitive and potentially disruptive stories within the NFL. The situation remains unresolved in the public sphere, with unanswered questions and a mixed record of responses from the organizations and individuals involved.
