Miami is home to many pro sports from football to basketball to baseball, but it just became home to one more- volleyball.. League One Volleyball, also known as LOVB, has recently announced an expansion team in the 305.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. But what is LOVB and what does that mean for the city? Here are some things to know about the league.. LOVB was founded by Katlyn Gao in 2020, along with Peter Hirschmann and Olympian Kevin Wong, but the professional league debuted in 2025. Not only has LOVB developed a professional program but also has created over 77 youth volleyball clubs. These clubs cater to over 22,000 young athletes and 3,500 coaches.. Starting as a six-team league, LOVB has grown to 10 teams for the 2026-27 season. The upcoming season will have two conferences, Western and Eastern.. Paulo Coco, previous Head Coach of Atlanta LOVB. On the Western side will be Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, Salt Lake and San Francisco. Atlanta, Madison, Miami, Minnesota and Nebraska will fight for first in the Eastern conference.. Advertisement. Advertisement. Advertisement. LOVB matches are broadcast across different platforms including USA Network, ESPN, and ESPN+. Their schedule is set to be announced in the fall, with games beginning in early January 2027.. LOVB is home to many big-name players from Olympians to high profile college players. This past season, Olympians Kelsey Cook, Jordan Thompson, Madisen Skinner, and Jordan Larson competed for LOVB. Other high profile college players like former Nebraska libero Lexi Rodriguez and Texas alumni Logan Eggleston also joined LOVB.. LOVB coming to Miami will give the Magic City a boost in women’s sports. The league is planning to partner with 305 Volleyball Club, a popular youth volleyball club in Miami, to help build and showcase volleyball talent. There is no current home court named for the Miami team but regardless they are set to join the 2027 season, starting in just over six months. Paulo Coco, previous Atlanta LOVB coach, will be the first ever coach for the team..
