What’s Jaguars’ Best Case Scenario Entering This Season?

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

It’s going to be a tall order for the Jacksonville Jaguars to top what they accomplished in 2025. It’s not that the Jaguars lack the ingredients of a playoff club, but last season’s run was extraordinary. With a first-year head coach guiding a quarterback who entered the league as the No. 1 overall pick and hadn’t established himself as a clear standout, Jacksonville surged from 4-13 to 13-4, a nine-win improvement that stands as the franchise’s best. To replicate that leap in 2026 would require another staggering performance, effectively winning 22 games, which is of course not feasible within a single season given the current schedule.
Even so, the odds aren’t insurmountable. The league may someday expand the regular season by five games, but that change won’t take effect in 2026. So the Jaguars will need to maximize the opportunities they have on the field and chase the best possible outcome within the existing framework. The most plausible and optimistic scenario for Jacksonville in 2026 is fairly straightforward: keep the train rolling in Duval. After posting a 13-4 regular-season record and claiming the AFC South crown in 2025, the Jaguars would aim to repeat as division champions—an achievement they would be pursuing for just the second time in franchise history and for the first time since the 1998-99 seasons. Trevor Lawrence would need to continue thriving under offensive coordinator Liam Coen, while several key pieces across the depth chart would need to maintain their form. Brian Thomas Jr. would aim to rebound toward the elite level of production he flashed as a rookie, and Travis Hunter would settle into his role as a two-way playmaker, beginning to live up to the high expectations attached to his draft status.
Of course, repeating as division champions won’t come easily. Jacksonville’s 2025 campaign demonstrated how fragile such a climb can be: the Jaguars needed every one of their 13 victories to secure the division, because the Houston Texans finished 12-5 and won each of their last nine games to close the regular season. In 2026, Houston figures to be a formidable challenger again, bringing back most of the defense that helped them yield the fewest total yards and nearly the fewest points in the league. That makes the Texans a potent rival and a reminder that the path to another divisional title will be fiercely contested.
Trevor Lawrence remains the key, and he must sustain the MVP-level play he showed down the stretch last season. Over his final six regular-season games, Lawrence tossed 15 touchdowns against just one interception, guiding Jacksonville to a winning streak in every contest. He accomplished this while perhaps not having the full support of his top receiver from the prior year, Brian Thomas Jr., who had exploded for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns on 87 receptions as a rookie but regressed to 707 yards and two touchdowns on 48 receptions in 2025, partly due to missing three games due to injury. The shift in Thomas’s production drew whispers that Jacksonville might explore a trade, but general manager James Gladstone shot down those rumors in March, and with training camp around the corner, Thomas remains in the fold.
Another factor in the equation is the health of Travis Hunter, the Jaguars’ high-draft asset from 2025 who appeared in only seven games due to injury. If Hunter can be fully healthy and remain on the field for a larger portion of the season, his presence could amplify Jacksonville’s ceiling by adding versatility and impact on both sides of the ball. The combination of Lawrence’s continued ascent, Thomas’s potential rebound, and Hunter’s health and production would significantly bolster the Jaguars’ chances of another deep run.
In summary, reaching or approaching the 13-win mark again would set Jacksonville up for another strong season and another potential division crown, albeit with the hard reality that history’s best outcomes are rarely repeated with ease. The Jaguars’ success in 2026 will hinge on quarterback consistency, the bounce-back of Thomas at the wide receiver position, the health and productivity of Hunter, and the ability to navigate a tough AFC South that includes a revitalized Texans squad and a competitive playing field across the conference. If those elements align, Jacksonville could again position itself as a top challenger in the AFC, even if the exact path to repeating in the standings remains a demanding and narrowing target.
