Where does Las Vegas Raiders’ Eric Stokes rank among AFC West cornerbacks?

By admin — In News — July 9, 2026

One of the few pleasant surprises from the Las Vegas Raiders’ roster last season was the breakout performance of free-agent cornerback Eric Stokes. He transformed from a first-round bust with the Green Bay Packers into the Raiders’ top corner, instilling much-needed credibility in Las Vegas’ secondary when evaluating the AFC West. So, how does Stokes fare against the corner tandems of the Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, and Los Angeles Chargers? All stats cited here refer to the regular season unless noted otherwise.
2025 Stats: 47 tackles, 1 interception, 12 passes defended (14 games)
Over the past four seasons, Patrick Surtain II has established himself as the premier corner in the division. He has earned four Pro Bowl selections, with one second-team All-Pro nod in 2025 and two first-team All-Pro recognitions in 2022 and 2024, plus a Defensive Player of the Year award in 2024. There isn’t a close second in the discussion for the league’s best corner, and Surtain has consistently been in the top tier across the NFL. In 2024, the former 2021 first-round pick ranked 10th among all cornerbacks with a 66.5 passer rating when targeted and tied for eighth by allowing a reception once every 17.1 coverage snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.
2025 Stats: 56 tackles, 2 interceptions, 9 passes defended (17 games)
Wan’Dale McMillian’s impact has grown in the shadow of the Chiefs’ offseason moves, which saw the departure of their top two corners, Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson. Either of those players could have claimed the second spot in the division had they remained. McMillian, who posted the highest PFF grade among AFC West corners last season (78.2) and ranked sixth in the league, has continued to prove his value. In addition to his counting stats, the four-year veteran has become a reliable nickel option, finishing sixth with 0.94 yards per snap allowed in slot coverage while contributing five tackles for loss and four sacks in 2025.
2025 Stats: 53 tackles, 0 interceptions, 5 passes defended (16 games)
Eric Stokes had the breakout season the Raiders hoped for last fall. He went from being benched by the Packers in 2024 to leading NFL corners in coverage snaps per reception allowed (19.8) in 2025 and recording the lowest completion percentage when targeted (56.0%) since his rookie year, according to PFF. The Raiders rewarded the five-year veteran with a three-year, $30 million contract extension in the offseason, and he enters training camp as Las Vegas’ clear No. 1 corner.
2025 Stats: 53 tackles, 0 interceptions, 7 passes defended (15 games)
Khris Still was one of the most surprising rookies in the league during the 2024 season, tallying four interceptions and 10 passes defended while starting only 12 games, earning some Defensive Rookie of the Year recognition and votes. In his second year, Still took on a larger role, spending about half of his snaps at nickel. His performance showed some regression, with a rise in completion percentage from 64.4% to 71.7% and a dip in ball production. Part of that can be attributed to the change in positional usage, though Still still posted a solid 70.0 PFF coverage grade, suggesting he remains a valuable, developing cover corner with room to grow.
In summary, Stokes has emerged as a legitimate top-tier outside corner for Las Vegas, anchoring the Raiders’ pass defense and elevating the unit within a competitive AFC West. Surtain II remains the clear elite among division corners, with McMillian providing strong complement and NFL-caliber coverage, while Stokes’ continued development could keep him among the league’s better cover players for years to come.
