On the road to a strong showing against the Athletics, the Chicago White Sox leaned on an unlikely hero. Outfielder Tristan Peters emerged as the latest player to hit for the cycle, delivering a standout performance on Friday. Peters’ night began with a double in the third inning, but Chicago’s slow start kept the scoreboard deadlocked at 0-0 until the fifth. In that frame, the White Sox surged ahead, scoring four runs, highlighted by a two-run RBI single from Peters.
By the bottom of the seventh, Peters had already etched his name into the box score in a big way with a two-run homer traveling 410 feet, stretching the lead to 6-1. With A’s relievers Justin Sterner and Mason Barnett unable to extinguish the inning, Peters received another at-bat before the frame ended. The 26-year-old outfielder from Manitoba seized the moment, delivering a cycle-clinching triple that sent Andrew Benintendi home and ballooned Chicago’s advantage to 12-1.
The assault continued into the bottom of the eighth, where the White Sox added two more runs to seal a dominant 14-1 victory. It was, overall, a night to remember for Chicago. Despite not scoring until the fifth, every member of the lineup crossed home plate, and all but one starter collected at least one hit. Peters and Benintendi each drove in four runs, and both avoided strikes, with Peters boasting a perfect 4-for-4 night—the only player to reach that mark.
According to OPTA Stats, Peters’ cycle makes him the first rookie in MLB history to hit for the cycle while batting ninth in the order. Peters, who debuted in the majors last year with the Tampa Bay Rays, was dealt in an offseason trade and has since become a valuable addition for the White Sox. In 89 games this season, he has posted a solid .292/.347/.450 slash line, underscoring his contribution to Chicago’s lineup.
With the win elevating the White Sox to the top of the American League Central, the team now aims to press their momentum against the Athletics and extend their lead over the Cleveland Guardians. The performance not only showcased Peters’ rare feat but also highlighted a collective offensive effort that bodes well for Chicago’s continued success as the schedule unfolds. The White Sox will look to ride this strong performance into upcoming matchups, maintaining their competitive edge as they seek to distance themselves in the division standings.
