The high school swimming season is here, and several Southwest Florida teams return athletes who should be contending for state medals in the fall.Here are some of the names you need to know.SW FL Swimmers to WatchBlake Beaver, Barron CollierBeaver swam at Jacksonville Bolles High School last season and qualified for the Class 4A state meet in the 500 free and 200 IM as a freshman. She earned medals in both events, coming in fifth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 500 free.Abigail Bossert, NaplesThe junior qualified for the Class 2A state meet in the 500 free and 100 back last season, coming in 15th and sixth place in the events, respectively. Bossert came in third in the 100 back at regionals and second at districts.Mila Buchanan, NaplesAt the Class 2A state meet last year, the junior finished third in the 100 fly and sixth in the 200 IM. Buchanan won regional and district titles in the 100 fly and contributed to the Golden Eagles’ fourth-place finishes in the 200 free and 200 medley relays.Abi Burke, Barron CollierThe 2025 Southwest Florida Girls Swimmer of the Year is back after an astounding freshman season where she won individual state golds in 100 and 200 free with All-American times. She also helped the Cougars finish in second place in the 200 free relay and third place in the 400 free relay. Over the summer, Burke qualified to represent Team USA at the Pan Pacific Championships where she won gold in the 200 free.Katia Bushko, EsteroBushko is entering her senior season after qualifying for the Class 2A state meet in the 500 free. She has earned two individual medals in the event in her high school career.Barney Cotterill, Community School of NaplesThe junior qualified for the Class 1A state meet in the 100 fly last season. He was the regional silver medalist in the event and came in third at districts.Carter Dumont, Gulf CoastIn his junior season, Dumont qualified for the Class 3A state meet in the 200 IM and 500 free. He won district titles in both events and finished second in the 200 IM at regionals.Lukash Eddy, NaplesThe junior has been a key contributor to the Golden Eagles’ relays. He was the CCAC runner-up in the 500 free last season.Josef Florek, EsteroA district champion in the 100 back and runner-up in the 500 free, the senior qualified for the Class 2A state meet in both events last year. He also contributed to the Wildcats’ sixth-place finish in the 400 free relay.Daynna Franklyn, Cape CoralFranklyn enters her senior season and a three-time All-Area selection. At districts last year, she finished first in the 50 free and second in the 100 free and qualified for the Class 3A state meet in both events. Anthony Gunderson, DunbarIn his junior season last year, Gunderson came in ninth place at the Class 3A state meet in diving. He was district champion and regional runner up in the event.Toula Hickmon, NaplesIn the 100 back, Hickmon won a district title, came in second at regionals and finished in third at the Class 2A state meet
