​The Chargers will look to finally get over the hump in 2026, and they’ve built a roster they believe is capable of doing just that. The team underwent significant changes this offseason, and it won’t be long before everyone finds out whether those moves were enough to take the next step. The Bolts are certainly one of the more intriguing teams heading into the season, and Robert Mays of The Athletic has them at the top of that list.In a recent interview with Omar Navarro of Chargers.com, Mays said he has them high on the list due to the addition of Mike McDaniel. “They’re at, or near, the top [of the NFL],” Mays said. “It’s been such an object of fascination for people that pay attention to the league, and for good reason,” Mays said. “What Mike has done in Miami and how unique the offense was, how exciting the offense was, how dynamic the offense was.”Now you kind of bring the ideas and that mentality and ability to maximize your players to a place where there’s a really talented quarterback and there’s a lot of intriguing pieces,” Mays added. “I think it’s hard not to get excited about it and part, at least, not be interested in.”The addition of McDaniel is arguably the biggest acquisition the Chargers have made this offseason, and for good reason. McDaniel is expected to bring a new element to the offense, an area they desperately need to improve, especially after back-to-back poor performances in the playoffs.McDaniel’s is set to bring a modern offensive scheme with an innovative run game and a high-ceiling pass attack that could take Justin Herbert’s game to another level. That is the hope after all. There are a handful of things that will need to go right for the Chargers to make a deep playoff run. Nonetheless, the addition of McDaniel is a good step in that direction. The Chargers’ offense will be under the microscope, but it has all the ingredients to become one of the league’s top groups in 2026.
