Why Veronica Hardy pulled out of UFC Oklahoma City bout

Veronica Hardy has been scratched from her UFC Oklahoma City bout with Dione Barbosa, which was set for the July 18 Fight Night card. A training-ground cut forced Hardy to withdraw, paving the way for Anna Melisano to step in and face Barbosa instead. Hardy shared the incident in an Instagram post, posting a sparring video that features slow-motion footage of a head clash with a partner, along with images of the cut both open and stitched. “It pains me to write this. I’ve replayed the day over and over wishing it would have gone differently,” she wrote. “The headgear wasn’t enough. I was so excited for Oklahoma City and I’m left heartbroken and disappointed. I am very sorry. I hope to return soon. Thank you for your ongoing support and love.” Hardy had just earned a victory by decision over Brogan Walker last October and was aiming to extend her streak against Barbosa. Fans expressed their support in the post’s comments, sending best wishes for a speedy healing.
