Part of the Nets’ identity should be running the lanes off turnovers and pushing the break coming off a defensive rebound.Keon Ellis could be the Nets’ main disruptor as the point-of-attack defender. He averaged 1.2 steals last season, including 1.1 with the Sacramento Kings and 1.3 with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being traded.Ellis has active hands in rotation and when defending the drive. He chops his feet on closeouts, helping him stay in front of the ball handler and time his block or steal.He finished in the 90th percentile range in multiple defensive stats per 100 possessions, suggesting he’s an elite disruptor. His 2.7 steals rank 93rd, 1.5 blocks rank 95th, 6.4 deflections rank 96th, 1.6 turnovers forced rank 96th and his stop percentage ranks 98th.Julius Randle and Michael Porter Jr. can “grab-and-go” off a defensive rebound. They both averaged over six rebounds per game, and Randle averaged five assists last season.His passing can lead to quick, easy buckets and, with a young roster, could tire out the opponent.The Nets have 12 players age 25 or under. They have young legs to run up and down the court, which older teams struggle to guard.Speeding up their pace can transform Brooklyn’s offense and make it much more feasible to pick up close wins in a tough Eastern Conference.
