A five-star running back recruit who is weighing his options for Ohio State football is set to announce his commitment on July 22. Ohio State football commits: Tracking the class of 2027 prospects
The last time Ohio State landed a running back projected as a five-star was TreVeyon Henderson, back in 2021.
David Gabriel Georges is a Baylor School standout who stands out as one of the top rushing talents in the country. Composite rankings from 247Sports place Georges as the No. 10 overall prospect and the No. 2 running back in the class of 2027. Though he began his life abroad, Georges moved to the United States two years ago to pursue his education at a boarding school in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In two seasons with the Baylor School Red Raiders, he developed into one of the nation’s premier ball carriers, recording back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns.
In his junior season last fall, Georges rushed for 1,756 yards and 27 touchdowns, averaging nearly 11 yards per carry. He played a pivotal role in helping Baylor win Tennessee’s Division II-AAA championship and guiding the team to an unbeaten mark—their first such run since 1973. His performance earned him national recognition, as MaxPreps named him national player of the year, a distinction not bestowed on a player since JT Daniels in 2017 before their senior seasons.
Georges’ commitment announcement is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22. Buckeye fans who want to hear the latest on the five-star running back’s decision can watch the reveal on the CBS Sports College Football YouTube channel or CBS Sports HQ on July 22 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
Recruiting landscape and rankings
In the broader context of the Ohio State football recruiting class, several other highly regarded prospects are positioned on the radar. According to 247Sports’ composite rankings, the landscape includes a mix of four-star and five-star athletes who could help shape the future of the program. Notable names in the mix include DJ Jacobs, an EDGE recruit from Blessed Trinity Catholic in Roswell, Georgia, who sits as a five-star nationally ranked player; Jamier Brown, a wide receiver from Big Walnut in Sunbury, Ohio, who is a five-star regarded as No. 32 nationally; Kellen Wymer, an offensive tackle from Liberty Center, Ohio, who is four-star and ranked No. 44 nationally; Marcus Fakatou, a defensive lineman from Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, California, who is four-star and No. 45 nationally; Caden Moss, an offensive tackle from Jackson Academy in Jackson, Mississippi, who is four-star and No. 69 nationally; Wyatt Smith, an edge defender from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, four-star and No. 95 nationally; and Prince Goldsby, an edge rusher from Blue Springs South in Blue Springs, Missouri, who is a four-star recruit.
Georges’ decision will be closely watched by fans and pundits alike as Ohio State continues to shape its running back room and overall recruiting strategy for the class of 2027. The outcome could influence how the program approaches future targets at skill positions and in the trenches, given Georges’ dual-threat potential and the impact of his transfer from Canada to Tennessee on his development and exposure. As the announcement approaches, recruiting analysts will be analyzing film, official visits, and the breadth of early commitments to gauge where Georges might land and how his addition could affect the Buckeyes’ depth chart in coming years.
