Yahoo Sports launches college fantasy football for 2026 season

Football fans, especially those who love fantasy football, have a reason to celebrate as a major development hits the fantasy world on Thursday morning: Yahoo Sports has opened signups for college fantasy football. College football enthusiasts can now assemble a squad comprised of their favorite college stars, with drafts slated to begin on August 3 and the first scoring week kicking off on September 3. Yahoo Sports explains that the scoring and lineup rules will mirror its NFL fantasy system, but there are some key twists. Notably, the player pool is limited to Power Five programs, totaling 68 teams, which should shape the talent pool and draft strategy.
There are several important differences to note. Default Yahoo leagues will retain the traditional lineup slots while also introducing a Team Offense position and removing the kicker slot. The Team Offense position is particularly intriguing, described as a way to reward efficient, high-scoring units that minimize mistakes. In terms of scoring for Team Offense, every touchdown, field goal, and victory earns fantasy points, and turnovers cost more points than they do in the NFL format. In essence, Team Offense functions similarly to a defense/special teams slot, which could make streaming a Team Offense a smart early-season tactic, especially when schedules are comparatively favorable.
As in the pro game, running backs and wide receivers are likely to dominate drafts and fantasy scores at the college level, where offensive output tends to be exceptionally high. Expect running backs to be hot commodities in early college fantasy drafts, with players such as West Virginia’s Cam Cook and BYU’s LJ Martin viewed among the top options. Tight ends may carry added value, too, since many college teams place a wide receiver at that spot, increasing the position’s fantasy importance.
Looking at Colorado, wide receivers Danny Scudero, Kam Perry, and DeAndre Moore Jr. stand out as likely fantasy stars. But the college landscape offers a broader field of potential breakout players. Here are several athletes who should be among the high selections in college football fantasy drafts: Jeremiah Smith, WR for Ohio State; Ahmad Hardy, RB for Missouri; Kewan Lacy, RB for Ole Miss; Malachi Toney, WR for Miami; Mark Fletcher Jr., RB for Miami; Trinidad Chambliss, QB for Ole Miss; Julian Sayin, OB for Ohio State; Dante Moore, QB for Oregon; Cam Coleman, WR for Texas.
