To replace him, the Yankees recalled outfielder Jasson Domínguez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Since going down with a concussion in May, Domínguez’s OPS in the minors has dropped 77 points, from .858 to .781. Grisham, who is clearly dealing with a recurring issue in his right hamstring, hasn’t been very hot either, putting up a .434 OPS over his last 15 games, striking out 15 times with just five hits. In the wake of the Grisham injury, it’s likely that Cody Bellinger, Spencer Jones, and Domínguez will split time in center field.Aug 4, 2025; Arlington, Texas, USA; New York Yankees left fielder Jasson Dominguez (24) during the game between the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees at Globe Life Field. The defensive prowess that he showed off for the majority of his career is practically gone: he’s gone from one of the best center fielders in the game to one of the least valuable (and slowest) players at his position. He isn’t even making up for it with his bat as he did in 2025, a season in which his OPS was a whole 109 points higher (.703 compared to .812) than it is right now.Prior to today’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
• Placed OF Trent Grisham on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
• Recalled OF Jasson Domínguez (#24) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.— New York Yankees (@Yankees) September 5, 2026In other words, it makes total sense that Grisham’s injury is causing his terrible play, at least in part. He missed a few weeks in June with presumably the same kind of injury, but the Yankees have yet to provide any details on its severity or timeline. It hurts to lose a starter no matter what, but at least there is some relief in the fact that the Yankees won’t be able to send a clearly struggling Grisham to the plate night after night for a little while.A Shot for DomínguezDomínguez hasn’t necessarily earned this promotion with his performance, but he’s also had such inconsistent playing time when he is in the majors, so it’s hard not to root for the young outfielder. Still just 23 years of age, Domínguez may just be able to provide another spark for a Yankees team that is watching the AL East slip away more and more every game. At this point, every new injury will feel like an even bigger blow than the last until Aaron Judge ret
