The team just isn’t currently built to make a deep playoff run, and it shows. The Yankees will have to make some tough decisions, including what to do with Jazz Chisholm Jr. The second baseman does want to remain a Yankee.“Chisholm, an All-Star for the second time in 2025, endured a down year at the plate and struggled both offensively and defensively in four appearances in the playoffs. Manager Aaron Boone left Chisholm out of the Yankees’ starting lineup for two postseason games, including their season-ending loss on Wednesday. The fans at Yankee Stadium booed Chisholm after he fouled out to first base as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning. Nevertheless, Chisholm would rather continue his career with the Yankees than exit in free agency,” MLB Trade Rumors’ wrote. However, it just doesn’t look like that is going to be the case for the veteran.“As the Yankees look to retool their roster for the 2027 season, there’s a massive hole they will need to fill. Second base, manned by Jazz Chisholm Jr. for the last two seasons, will explore free agency and it’s likely he will not return to the Bronx,” SNY’s Phillip Martinez wrote. With Chisholm likely not coming back, SI’s Joe Najarian believes the Yankees should sign Gleyber Torres.“On one hand, Torres would strictly be brought in for his bat, as his glove at second base remains mediocre (-5 OAA, -2 FRV). The 29-year-old was also limited to 96 games due to injuries and didn’t provide too much pop, with just 21 extra-base hits and a .363 slugging percentage in 2026. But on the other hand, Torres’ plate discipline improved over the course of his Yankee tenure and improved even further during his two seasons with the Tigers,” Najarian wrote.Torres was a Yankee before joining the Detroit Tigers this season. One of New York’s biggest problems during the playoffs was putting runs on the board against the Tampa Bay Rays, and Torres could give the lineup a boost.Torres played on a $22 million contract this season. It is unclear what his market will look like this offseason, but a return to the Bronx wouldn’t be a bad idea for either side.More MLB news:Braves predicted to sign $75M veteran ex-Yankees 3-time All-Star, AL wins leader this seasonPhillies predicted to sign Cubs’ $85M former Silver Slugger finalist for Bryce Harper reasonBraves predicted to sign $15M three-time All-Star power bat, former ALCS MVP to bolster lineupBraves predicted to sign ex-Mets $38M veteran two-time all-Star to bolster rotation with Chris Sale
