‘You Don’t Get Great by Being Lazy’ – Jannik Sinner’s Move Before Novak Djokovic Clash in Spotlight As Stubbs Reacts

Jannik Sinner surged into a second consecutive Wimbledon final with a masterclass that left Novak Djokovic playing catch-up from the opening rally. The Italian delivered an exemplary serve throughout the blockbuster semifinal on Friday, earning just a single break-point chance for Djokovic, which the Serb failed to convert. Sinner’s serving was a standout feature of the day, as he blasted 16 aces and won an overwhelming 88% of his first-serve points and 62% of his second-serve points, finishing with a convincing 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 victory to set up a final clash with Alexander Zverev.
Rennae Stubbs, Serena Williams’ former coach, provided insight into the crucial role of meticulous preparation. She shared that she watched Sinner at a Thursday practice session, where the 24-year-old spent nearly an hour refining his serve. According to Stubbs, the intense focus on serve mechanics illustrated how attention to detail can translate into match-day success. “Was on the practice court yesterday next to Jannik, and he must’ve served for a minimum of 30/40 minutes. It’s obvious that he knew how important the serve was today. He’s reaping the benefits of that work. You don’t get great by being lazy and not having attention to the details to win,” Stubbs wrote on X.
Sinner’s resurgence follows a relatively rocky stretch at Roland Garros, where he faced an early setback but has since rediscovered his best form. He has not dropped a set since advancing past Miomir Kecmanović in a five-set opener, signaling a return to the high-level consistency that marks his ascent in the game. Djokovic, at 39, arrived at Wimbledon seeking a historic 25th Grand Slam title but looked vulnerable at times on Friday, ultimately succumbing in straight sets as he extended his wait for another major crown.
Looking ahead, Sinner will face Zverev in the Wimbledon final, a matchup that already holds significant intrigue. Zverev enters as the defending Wimbledon champion and brings a 10-4 lead in their head-to-head series, having defeated the Italian four times in 2024. Yet Zverev’s form is arguably at its peak, following his breakthrough Grand Slam triumph at the French Open that ended his long wait for a major title. The stage is set for a compelling showdown on Centre Court, with two of the sport’s brightest talents meeting at tennis’s most iconic venue.
As the weekend approaches, fans anticipate a riveting final that could cement Sinner’s status among the sport’s elite and further broaden the narrative of modern men’s tennis, with a rising star aiming to topple a veteran champion in a high-stakes title clash. The semifinal victory also underscored the importance of structured practice and relentless focus, themes that have become synonymous with Sinner’s approach as he continues to carve out his place in history on the sport’s biggest stages.
