Dave Dixon first encountered Greenville from the opposite sideline, coaching against the Charlotte Independence as they faced the Greenville Triumph. Each time Dixon’s team rolled into town, it wasn’t merely another stop on the schedule—Greenville felt like a fervent soccer hub where fans turned out in force to back their local squad. So, when the opportunity to become the Greenville Triumph’s head coach arose in late 2025, Dixon recognized an opening aligned perfectly with both his professional ambitions and personal goals. The timing couldn’t have been better, coinciding with the unveiling of the club’s brand-new stadium, GE Vernova Park at BridgeWay Station, and offering a platform to elevate the Triumph’s fan experience to new heights.
As Greenville Triumph head coach, Dixon is eager to embed himself in the community and cultivate a strong bond between the team and its supporters. He envisions the Triumph becoming a central pillar of Greenville’s vibrant Upstate soccer culture, hoping to harness local energy and pride to drive the club forward. In a candid conversation, Dixon shared his vision for building a championship-caliber team, a plan to integrate more local players into the roster, and what the new stadium could mean for the Triumph’s long-term prospects.
Talk Greenville sat down with Dixon to gain insight into his decision to join the Triumph and his broader strategy for success. What drew you to the Greenville Triumph? Dixon recalled his history with the club: he was coaching in Charlotte when the Triumph first launched and the two teams regularly clashed in pre-season play. While contemplating a fresh challenge at a pivotal point in his career, Greenville Triumph emerged as the top option he was willing to pursue. After connecting with Zach Prince, the general manager, Dixon felt the organization would be an excellent fit for both his career trajectory and his family’s needs, and he described the transition as a seamless soccer move that made the decision straightforward.
What were your early impressions of Greenville? Dixon described a palpable hometown vibe, a community that supports the club with enthusiasm and consistent energy. He noted that Greenville is a place where players genuinely want to contribute to the community because they love being part of it. There’s a thriving soccer culture in the Upstate, and Dixon spoke about the club’s desire to cultivate homegrown talent, expand the academy system, and eventually bring more local players onto the roster within the next five years. He believes the new GE Vernova Park will further enable those goals by providing a more integrated ecosystem for development and fan engagement.
What excites you most about moving into the new stadium? Dixon emphasized that not many teams at this level own their own venue, and those that do demonstrate a serious commitment to their club and community. He is looking forward to creating a true home-field advantage on gameday and using a dedicated stadium to deepen connections with fans and tell the Triumph’s story in a more powerful, consistent way. Dixon acknowledged that owning a stadium represents a substantial investment from the club’s ownership, the county, and the city, and he sees it as the foundation upon which the team can build sustained success. His charge now is to transform GE Vernova Park into a special, welcoming destination where fans feel a genuine sense of belonging and pride in supporting their team.
