Arch Manning wasn’t just a five-star recruit; he was among the most highly rated prospects ever evaluated. His arrival at Texas generated so much hype that he was in the Heisman conversation before taking a single snap for the Longhorns. The sports media landscape treated Arch as if he were already an established NFL first-round pick the moment he committed to Austin. Archie Manning voiced his unease about how his grandson was covered during his development year. “I was kind of disappointed in a lot of people,” Archie told Noah Gross of KXAN News at the Manning Passing Academy. “They kind of crowned Arch before he ever played. I just didn’t think that was fair. Yeah, it was a little tough start. He played for a great team. But I’ve never been more proud of anybody in my life. The way Arch battled through what he had to go through last year, and the way he played the last eight or nine games of the season.”
Now, Arch is no longer merely a highly touted legacy prospect waiting on the sidelines. He enters his junior year as a proven, elite SEC starting quarterback and a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, after throwing for 3,163 yards and totaling 37 touchdowns against just seven interceptions last season. The expectations for Arch and the Longhorns are higher than ever as 2026 approaches.
