According to F1 TV analyst Alex Brundle, Racing Bulls has carved out the role of the “best of the rest” in the current Formula 1 season. The Faenza team enjoyed a strong weekend at the Red Bull Ring, securing a double points finish as Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad ended the Austrian Grand Prix in ninth and tenth, earning three points for the outfit. On F1 TV’s post-race show, co-host and former IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe questioned whether the team might drift backward in the race despite decent qualifying pace, given that many paddock observers expected a decline during the grand prix.
Brundle acknowledged the fluctuations seen across the field, noting that Racing Bulls stopped twice but still finished in the points, essentially in ninth and tenth. He argued that this is “not bad,” calling them the best of the rest and suggesting that, for the first time in a while, their race pace matched their qualifying speed. Lindblad and Lawson delivered solid performances, with Brundle praising the overall race pace as they crossed the line.
Lawson said after the race on Sky Sports F1 that he felt confident in the Racing Bulls car before the start and that the pace actually improved through the 71 laps. “Probably after the first stint, we knew we had good speed compared to the other midfield teams,” Lawson commented. “I think we were on for a decent race, and to be honest, I think our pace got better through the race as well, compared to others, so pretty happy.” Lawson sits 10th in the drivers’ championship with 30 points, while Lindblad, in his rookie season, is 13th with 14 points. Consequently, Racing Bulls stand sixth in the constructors’ standings with 44 points, 13 points behind Alpine in fifth.
