Former Clemson star DeAndre Hopkins is ready to make an impact one more time

DeAndre Hopkins says there’s nothing left for him to prove in terms of individual achievements. The former Clemson star has built one of the great wide-receiver careers of his generation, but as he heads into another offseason without a contract, he’s taking a patient approach and waiting for the right fit rather than rushing to sign. In a recent SiriusXM interview, Hopkins emphasized that he still loves football and believes he can contribute, even if his role has evolved from earlier in his career.
“I’m entering my 14th year and I still love the game,” Hopkins said. “I still have a lot of ball left, but I’m not forcing a situation or trying to be the regular-season superstar anymore. That’s for the younger guys who are being developed and offered contracts that look to the future. I know my role now: I’m a utility guy, a special-situation player. I can win one-on-one, and lately I’ve been a third-down target. I wasn’t utilized much in the red zone last season, but on third down I’m still a go-to option, and I don’t expect that to change soon.”
Hopkins appeared in all 17 games for the Baltimore Ravens last season, hauling in 22 receptions for 330 yards and two touchdowns. That was his least productive season, but his career résumé remains among the best for active receivers. Since entering the league in 2013, he has accumulated over 13,000 receiving yards, surpassed 1,000 yards seven times, and earned five Pro Bowl selections.
Now, winning matters most to him. Hopkins added that he would love to play for a competitive team if the right opportunity arises and that he’s not in a rush to chase a regular-season superstar role without a contract extension.
Rumors have linked several playoff-caliber teams to him, including the Washington Commanders, Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Bengals, and Detroit Lions. Regardless of the destination, Hopkins is confident he can still impact games when it counts.
