The Miami Hurricanes are set to start their third transfer quarterback in as many seasons, moving from Cam Ward (Washington State) to Carson Beck (Georgia), and now adding former Duke Blue Devil Darian Mensah. Mensah had a standout season in 2025 and brings significant upside to the offense, with his draft stock rising as a result of this move. What does his summer scouting report look like? Here’s a look.
Height: 6’3″
Weight: 205 lbs
Recruiting rank: Three-star recruit, No. 112 quarterback nationally in 2023
Hometown: San Luis Obispo, California
Games watched: Illinois, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Arizona State
Strengths: Great at throwing receivers open, possesses nice touch on deep balls, set Duke single-season records with 3,973 passing yards in 2025, effective at working through progressions, and can dismantle defenses with a clean pocket. He has stepped up in big games.
Weaknesses: Arm strength is average at best, struggles to push the ball deep compared to other players in his class, benefited from defensive drops and could have had more turnovers, durability concerns could be alleviated if he adds 10-15 pounds. His rushing value is low.
Darian Mensah is a solid pocket passer who may face challenges translating to the NFL, but in this Manny Diaz offense, he could thrive this season and elevate his stock. At present, I project Mensah as a third-round prospect, with the potential to be in early-second-round discussions by season’s end.
