The Detroit Pistons have reportedly made another offseason move as they reshape their roster. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Detroit has traded guard Marcus Sasser to the Dallas Mavericks. Stein noted that Dallas has lined up deals to be finalized after the moratorium lifts on July 6, including a plan to acquire Aldama and Sasser, and that Dallas secured the trade by sending a 2030 first-round pick (guarded 1-to-20) via Golden State, a pick also involved in the Anthony Davis swap. While Stein confirmed Sasser’s destination, he did not specify what the Pistons will receive in return.
Sasser’s time with Detroit appears to be ending after three seasons. Drafted 25th overall in 2023 out of Houston, he showed flashes of scoring ability but struggled to secure a consistent role in a crowded guard group. Last season, he played 38 games, averaging 5.2 points and 2.0 assists while shooting 41.5 percent from deep. Despite his outside shooting, Sasser’s playing time diminished as the Pistons added more depth at guard.
This trade marks another move in what has been a busy offseason for Detroit President of Basketball Operations Trajan Langdon. The Pistons have already added Isaiah Joe, re-signed Kevin Huerter, traded Isaiah Stewart, and selected Ebuka Okorie in the first round of the NBA Draft. Moving Sasser fits the team’s broader plan to build around Cade Cunningham while increasing roster flexibility ahead of the 2026-27 season.
However, full details remain pending. Stein’s report confirms Sasser’s move to Dallas but does not reveal the Pistons’ return, and more information is expected once the trade becomes official. In summary, Marcus Sasser’s run with Detroit is likely over as the Pistons pursue a deeper, more versatile roster to compete in the Eastern Conference.
