Jockey Frankie Dettori has suffered multiple injuries after a car crash near Newmarket, with his management confirming he sustained several broken ribs and a broken thumb. A spokesperson for H Talent Management said the collision occurred on Wednesday evening when another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car Dettori was driving, causing it to spin and flip. Dettori remains in hospital for further scans and observation as his injuries are assessed, and he is focusing on rest and recovery. The management team asked for privacy and stated there would be no further comment until a meaningful update. Police were called to the A1304 London Road near Six Mile Bottom at about 19:00 BST on Wednesday, and officials said there were no arrests. Two patients were taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment. Dettori, 55, had not ridden in Britain since October 2023, but was planning a return to the saddle in the Leger Legends race at Doncaster during the St Leger Festival in September. The crash happened just over the Cambridgeshire border, and local police confirmed the incident but reported no arrests. Dettori previously survived a light aircraft crash in June 2000 at Newmarket that claimed the life of pilot Patrick Mackey; fellow jockey Ray Cochrane, who later became Dettori’s agent, also survived that crash.
