Roy Keane’s surprise verdict on Man United’s recent transfer woes

By admin — In yahoo — July 2, 2026

Roy Keane has offered a candid take on Manchester United’s recent transfer missteps, suggesting fans shouldn’t overreact to the club’s injury-time setbacks in the market. The United legend has long been direct, and his latest remarks come as the club aims to strengthen its midfield before the new season, after suffering a series of disappointments. Reports indicate United have secured Atalanta’s Ederson, but their plan to add more Premier League-proven quality remains unsettled. Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson was said to be their preferred option, yet Manchester City have won the race for the midfielder. Earlier, United shifted focus to West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes as a backup, only for Tottenham to leap ahead for the Portuguese youngster. The mood among fans is understandably glum, but Keane argues there is no need for panic.
On the Stick to Football podcast, Keane urged patience in United’s transfer strategy and warned against rushed or impulsive acquisitions. He said, “If you are United you wouldn’t panic,” highlighting a pattern of previous hasty deals and urging trust in the club’s process. He added that over the past year United’s recruitment has improved and stressed not to chase “silly auctions” or overspend on midfielders, insisting supporters should have faith in the club’s decisions.
Keane’s stance is a welcome defense of United as they try to reassemble their summer plans. Looking ahead, there are still options to strengthen the midfield before the window closes. The club needs an established presence to fill the void left by Casemiro, who departed as a free agent after an outstanding season. While Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni has been floated as a potential successor, recent reports suggest a move this summer is unlikely. Links to Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha have also emerged, with the 25-year-old Germany international reportedly open to a bonus-based deal that could tempt United. If a domestic option is preferred, Alex Scott has been on INEOS’s radar following a strong campaign, though Bournemouth seemingly aren’t keen on letting him go.
