LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dalton Rushing delivered the decisive hit, driving in the winning run in the 11th inning as the Dodgers outslugged the Colorado Rockies 8-7 in Los Angeles on Monday night. With the infield in, Rushing lined a single that capped a dramatic comeback and lifted the Dodgers to their first extra-innings victory of the season. This win improved Los Angeles to 60-32, making them the first team in the majors to reach 60 wins this year. It also marked the Dodgers’ first game that required extras since Game 7 of last year’s World Series, when they toppled Toronto to clinch their second consecutive championship.
The bottom of the 11th began with Teoscar Hernández at second base. Max Muncy was intentionally walked by Jimmy Herget, bringing up pinch-hitter Tommy Edman for a productive sacrifice bunt that moved Hernández to third. Rushing followed with his third hit of the night, driving in Hernández to end the game. Earlier, the Dodgers had tied it at 7-7 in the 10th inning. Andy Pages started the inning at second and advanced to third on Freddie Freeman’s groundout to first against Brennan Bernardino. Pages scored on Edouard Julien’s fielding error on Mookie Betts, which allowed Betts to reach second on Tucker’s single. A line-drive double play ended the frame, with Tucker doubled off second.
For the Rockies, Jake McCarthy delivered a groundout to first base that gave Colorado a 7-6 lead in the 10th. The Rockies offense surged in the 9th as Kyle Karros ripped an RBI double off Dodgers closer Tanner Scott to begin the rally, and Carrigg followed with a two-run double to deep center with the bases loaded to push the tying runs across. Brett Sullivan, who pinch-ran for Karros, was also ruled safe at the plate on a call that would have given Colorado the lead, but the Dodgers challenged and overturned the ruling. The Rockies then challenged a separate aspect of the play, alleging Rushing blocked the plate, but Colorado’s challenge was unsuccessful, sending the game to extra innings tied 6-6.
The night also featured a standout performance from Shohei Ohtani, who drove in four runs, including his 299th career homer. The attendance at a tense, back-and-forth game featured moments of heightened emotion as both dugouts and parts of the bullpens briefly converged on the field amid the on-field activity and disputes.
Looking ahead, Rockies right-hander Michael Lorenzen (3-9, 6.91 ERA) is slated to start Tuesday against Dodgers right-hander Justin Wrobleski (10-2, 2.80). This pitching matchup sets the stage for another pivotal game in this interleague series. For coverage and updates, refer to AP MLB reports and the AP MLB hub.
