46-45 – Rangers finally see heaven, beat Angels 8-3

The Texas Rangers erupted for eight runs while the Anaheim Angels managed three in a game that featured a late surge from Texas to secure the victory. The Rangers entered the seventh inning with two hits on the scoreboard, but by the end of the night they had racked up 11 hits in a 8-3 win over Los Angeles. Tonight’s performance felt like a breakthrough against the Angels, a matchup that had eluded Texas for most of the season until this Saturday.
For much of the night, the odds didn’t look favorable. Jacob deGrom allowed two two-out RBI hits in the top of the first, pushing Texas’s early ERA to 6.70 on the season. The Rangers had just one hit through five innings, yet that lone hit produced two runs in the bottom of the second when Nicky Lopez delivered a two-out RBI single after a pair of walks issued by Angels starter Jose Soriano tied the game.
Texas didn’t record their third hit until the seventh inning, and it came at a crucial moment when the Rangers trailed 3-2. Justin Foscue lofted a solo homer just over the left-field fence to bring the score even and shift the momentum. The conversion from a tight duel to a one-run game came after deGrom exited following five innings and 80 pitches, a decision that seemed to reflect gradual innings management while the pitching staff endured a demanding stretch. With deGrom out, Cole Winn tossed a scoreless inning, but the Angels reclaimed the lead in the seventh after Chris Martin entered the game to bridge the gap, attempting to hold a fragile 2-2 score and guide the Angels toward late-inning stability.
Martin, at 78 years old and dealing with an elbow that has seen better days, hadn’t been sharp all season. His performance, along with the rest of a bullpen that had little margin for error in a tied game, was part of a shaky revival plan to reach Jacob Latz as the game progressed while Texas waited on deGrom’s planned 80-pitch limit. Yet Texas would soon flip the script.
The Rangers seized control in the eighth inning, surging with five runs to break a 3-3 deadlock. A highlight of the frame was Alejandro Osuna’s three-run homer, his first of the 2026 season, which pushed the lead from a precarious tie to a comfortable advantage. The offense wasn’t limited to Osuna alone; the inning featured a late rally that featured Ezequiel Duran singling home the go-ahead run and setting the stage for Foscue’s earlier heroics to bear fruit in a dramatic sequence. Foscue earned Player of the Game honors for his two big contributions: a pinch-hit, game-tying solo shot in the seventh and an RBI hit in the eight-run rally that sealed the outcome.
With the five-run eighth, Texas transformed a 3-3 stalemate into an 8-3 victory, all without the need for the All-Star closer to enter the game. The win, combined with a defeat by the Seattle Mariners in a separate matchup in Miami, keeps the Rangers above .500 and within a half-game of first place in the American League West.
Player of the Game: Foscue’s timely plate appearances defined the night for Texas. He delivered the tying homer in the seventh and then added an RBI hit in the decisive eighth inning, following Ezequiel Duran’s go-ahead single that set the stage for a five-run outburst. His performance stood out as the spark that ignited the late rally, turning a potential loss into a signature comeback win.
That late-inning surge also allowed the Rangers to celebrate their first win of the year against the last-place Angels, a notable milestone in a divisional race that remains tight as the season unfolds.
Up Next: Texas will look to carry the momentum into the next game against Anaheim, with MacKenzie Gore scheduled to start for the Rangers against Walbert Urena for the Angels. The midweek matchup is set for a 7:05 pm CDT first pitch from The Shed, and fans can catch the action on the Rangers Baseball Network.
