Dodgers’ chances at another walk-off thwarted by Rockies

The Dodgers came tantalizingly close to delivering another walk-off victory against the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, but ended up on the short end of a 4-3 defeat. Shohei Ohtani continued his historic pace, launching his 300th career home run and striking the leadoff for his 25th homer as a Dodger, giving his team an immediate early cushion. With that milestone, Ohtani becomes the 18th active player in baseball to reach at least 300 career home runs, 129 of which have come while wearing Dodger blue.
Offense proved to be a tough assignment against Rockies starter Lorenzen throughout the night, with the Dodgers manufacturing another run on a bases-loaded walk to Andy Pages in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Dodgers managed to scratch across another tally in the bottom of the fifth when Alex Freeland delivered an RBI single, and unlike their earlier at-bats against Lorenzen in April, three runs proved more than enough for the Dodgers’ starter that night.
Justin Wrobleski pitched another stellar performance for Los Angeles, continuing to expose Colorado’s struggles against left-handed pitching. The southpaw went seven innings, allowing just one run while striking out nine. Although his strikeout rate stands at 6.55 per nine innings, Wrobleski has lined up 20 strikeouts over his previous 14 innings across two starts, underscoring the strong form he’s shown lately. Despite Wrobleski’s effectiveness, the bullpen could not protect the lead in support of his gem. Will Klein opened the relief effort but immediately ran into trouble, putting two men on with one out. Tyler Freeman scored the inherited runner from third, prompting Klein to depart for Jack Dreyer. A bunt by Jake McCarthy was fielded but the relay throw from Alex Freeland surged past Muncy and into the Dodgers’ dugout, allowing two unearned runs to score as Colorado grabbed a one-run advantage.
Juan Mejia worked two scoreless innings before Jordan Romano was summoned to try and close out the game for Colorado. The Dodgers appeared set to walk it off again after Freeland and Teoscar Hernández reached base with no outs, but Romano then retired Ohtani and Pages on flies and coaxed Freddie Freeman to strike out, handing Colorado their first win at Dodger Stadium this season.
Evan Phillips returned from Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, marking his first appearance since May 2025. He delivered a scoreless ninth inning, permitting just one hit and two strikeouts while keeping the Rockies off the board.
Home runs: Shohei Ohtani (20). Winning pitcher: Juan Mejia (2-6) with two innings, one hit, no runs, no walks, one strikeout. Losing pitcher: Will Klein (3-3) allowing three runs (none earned) on one hit, one walk, and zero strikeouts in a third of an inning. Save: Jordan Romano (6) with a clean one-inning relief, one hit, no runs, one walk, and one strikeout.
The Dodgers close out their series against Colorado on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. PT, with Roki Sasaki facing Ryan Feltner in a matchup that will be eagerly watched by fans hoping for a bounce-back win to avoid a disappointing home stand finish. This game file is structured for better SEO relevance and provides a thorough recap of the events, highlighting Ohtani’s milestone, Wrobleski’s innings, the bullpen’s late struggles, and Phillips’ long-awaited return to the mound.
