The Tides and Mets had their Tuesday game washed out by rain and plan to make up the contest as a doubleheader later today. The Baysox rallied in the eighth inning to tie the game and then pushed across the winning run in the tenth for a come-from-behind victory over the RubberDucks. Akron took an early advantage thanks to a solo homer in the second, maintaining a 1-0 lead through the seventh. Tavian Josenberger led off the eighth with a single to right and advanced to second on a Douglas Hodo III single. An unassisted tag at first erased Hodo, but Brandon Butterworth crushed a fly ball to center that should have ended the inning yet for an error. The misplay allowed Butterworth to reach and Josenberger to score from second, tying the game.
The RubberDucks put the winning run on second with two outs in the ninth, but Ben Vespi induced Bennett Thompson to strike out to force extras. In the top of the tenth, Anderson De Los Santos sacrificed Manfred Man Fernando Peguero to third. Peguero then raced home on a wild pitch to give the Baysox the lead. In the bottom of the tenth, Jeisson Cabrera struck out a pair and coaxed two fly outs to strand Akron’s Manfred Man and seal the win for Chesapeake.
Chesapeake also benefited from a strong start by left-hander Joseph Dzierwa. The 2025 second-round pick worked five innings, allowing three hits and one earned run with zero walks and three strikeouts, lowering his Baysox ERA to 2.38. The tall lefty has yielded one or fewer runs in five of his last seven starts.
The Keys surged for four runs in the ninth to force extra innings and then walked off the BlueClaws in the 11th to begin the series on a high note. Frederick trailed 7-3 entering the bottom of the ninth, needing a miracle. Vance Honeycutt struck out to open the frame before Leandro Arias and Colin Tuft reached on a walk and hit-by-pitch, respectively. Randal Diaz followed with a single to left to bring Arias home and cut the deficit. Edwin Amparo then singled to load the bases for RJ Austin. The Keys outfielder grounded into a potential double play, but the relay throw from second sailed past third base, allowing Tuft and Diaz to score. Austin then created the tying run on his own, stealing second and third and racing home when the throw to third went awry.
In the top of the tenth, the BlueClaws again had runners at second and third, but Todd Kniebe struck out Nick Biddison to leave both runners stranded. The Keys answered in the bottom of the tenth when they used their Manfred Man, but Honeycutt and Arias both struck out to push the game to the eleventh. After the BlueClaws inflicted an inning-ending grounder-force in the top of the eleventh, the stage was set for a Tuft walk-off. With Arias on second, the Jersey Shore reliever delivered a wild pitch that moved the go-ahead runner to third. Tuft followed by lifting a sacrifice fly to left, bringing home Arias for the walk-off victory and completing the dramatic comeback.
