“The best club in the world” – Fabino hints at return to former club as Saudi contract ends

Fabinho’s summer has regained a fresh sense of intrigue, the sort of narrative that tends to follow seasoned stars once their futures become unsettled by contract deadlines and routine routines. Recalled by Brazil for the 2026 World Cup after three seasons with Al-Ittihad, the former Liverpool midfielder now finds himself once again on the market as a free agent, while speaking warmly about a club he once briefly called home.
His return to Brazil’s national team has surprised some observers, mainly because his recent form has been far from Europe’s weekly spotlight. Yet there is substance to his time in Saudi Arabia. Fabinho helped Al-Ittihad clinch consecutive Saudi Pro League titles and also lift the King’s Cup, bringing balance and experience to a squad built to win quickly. That chapter is now closed. His three-year deal in Jeddah expired at the end of June, with no extension agreed, leaving the 32-year-old free to consider the next phase of a career that has already taken him through many of world football’s most demanding environments.
When asked about the possibility of a return to Spain by El Chiringuito TV, Fabinho offered a response that left room for interpretation while not dispelling the idea. “Would I like to return to Real Madrid? Who wouldn’t like being at Real Madrid? It’s the best club in the world.” It was a reply that was courteous in tone but open enough to fuel speculation about a potential reunion.
His relationship with Real Madrid is modest in length but meaningful in memory. He joined Real Madrid Castilla from Rio Ave in 2012, became a regular for the B team in the Segunda División, and trained in close proximity to José Mourinho’s senior squad. His sole first-team appearance came in May 2013, when he came off the bench in a 6-2 victory at Malaga.
The ensuing move, first to Monaco and then to Liverpool for around €45 million in July 2018, shaped the career most supporters know. At Liverpool, he emerged as one of Europe’s most dependable holding midfielders, a player defined by control, discipline, and authority.
Now, with the World Cup behind him and his contract situation clarified, Fabinho again has options. Whether Real Madrid will act on the opening remains to be seen, but the midfielder has made one thing unmistakably clear: the prospect of a Madrid reunion clearly appeals to him. Credit to the original interview clip for the post-match remarks that have reignited talk of a Real Madrid return and to the ongoing narrative that continues to place Fabinho in the orbit of one of football’s most storied clubs. The possibility is dangling, the interest is real, and the chapter Fabinho is writing remains highly observable for fans and clubs across Europe.
