It’s been a while since a solid rumor stirred things up, but Wednesday delivered a particularly juicy one. Von Miller, the NFL’s premier free-agent pass rusher, posted an edit of himself in a Dallas Cowboys uniform to his Instagram story. You can check it out here. Things like this happen all the time with the Cowboys. They are the biggest draw in professional sports, and attaching yourself to them can pay off in visibility and potential partnerships. It’s the kind of tale that repeats itself in one form or another with the Cowboys.
But this time feels a touch different. Miller is a Dallas native through and through. He played and excelled at Texas A&M, not far from home, which makes the idea of him wearing the Cowboys’ star feel more plausible. And there’s more than just sentiment at play here. We actually have Miller’s stance on the matter beyond a single social post, because I spoke with him on Monday—about 48 hours before the post began to spread—and the conversation happened in the context of his partnership with Raising Cane’s and their involvement with the Sack Summit he’s part of.
“It would be… it would be great to be a Dallas Cowboy. Raising Cane’s is a sponsor of the Dallas Cowboys, you know it’s it’s great to have, you know a owner and founder like Todd Graves to invest you know in in the future of the future generation of football. Todd has become a great friend of mine. You know we had a ton of fun you know working together this year. We went to the Kentucky Derby, F1, we went to the Croatia World Cup where they played England. Todd had a suite at at at Cowboy Stadium. It was amazing, he always brings people together and it’s always great to have great experiences like that with Todd and all of the interesting people that he brings around. He’s he’s been amazing, I had a I had a blast at the Fanatics Flag Football game as well with Todd Graves. I think he had a team I was on the Cane’s team so you know it’s just been amazing.”
“And you know playing for the Dallas Cowboys… that’d that’d even further our relationship with with Raising Cane’s and Todd. So I’ve always, I grew up here in Dallas. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the Dallas Cowboys… if I played for the Dallas Cowboys this year I… I only have to drive 20 minutes to work. My mom and dad… this would be the first time that my mom and dad don’t have to fly to every single game. My mom has been to every single game that I’ve ever played in and she’ll be able to drive to all the home games and you know I got so many family members here. My kids are here. My family is here, girlfriend is here. Everybody’s here. It’d just be easy to to to work it out so you never really know… you know we talked about that magnetic field in College Station. Maybe the magnetic field here in in Dallas will get me there. So I would I would love to play for the Dallas Cowboys and it’d be amazing.”
This could all be a lot of nothing. Maybe Miller is merely manifesting a dream, or perhaps he believes there’s real momentum behind it. Maybe he even knows something we don’t. And yes, that “magnetic field” line was probably a nod to SEO more than a physical phenomenon. But paired with the timing, the Dallas-born edge, and the surrounding narrative—Miller’s long-standing ties to the area and to Raising Cane’s—the idea feels a little more substantial than your average rumor. The timing of his interview added a real-world thread: he’s clearly thinking about what life would look like if he joined the Cowboys, and he’s framing it in terms of personal life logistics, family, and the convenience of staying close to home.
Whether this amounts to more than a social post and a public relations hook remains to be seen. Miller’s words suggest genuine appetite for a Dallas chapter, and the connection to Raising Cane’s and Todd Graves adds another layer of potential collaboration and alignment with the Cowboys’ ecosystem. Still, until the deal moves from conversation to confirmation, this remains a compelling, well-timed rumor with a credible personal stake for Miller and a strong appeal for Cowboys fans hoping to see a hometown star in the star-studded navy and white.
