On Wednesday, July 8, the Meadow Greens-Ramsey Ladies Club held a festive round of “Red, White, and Blue” to honor both the Fourth of July and our nation’s 250th birthday. Before the match began, each team member selected one of the three colors to be used for scoring, adding an element of suspense and strategy to the competition. To keep the process fair and unpredictable, small ribbons in red, white, or blue were randomly tied to the bottoms of the flag sticks, ensuring that players did not know in advance whose hole would correspond to their color choice.
As play progressed, each hole presented a unique challenge tied to the color chosen by the participant. After completing a hole, the player who had the designated color counted the handicap adjusted from their raw score to arrive at the team’s adjusted score for that hole. This method created a dynamic scoring system that highlighted individual skill while contributing to the overall team effort. The result was a round that blended patriotic spirit with friendly competition, as players navigated the course with a touch of tactical intrigue.
On the front nine, the determined winners achieved an impressive adjusted score of 32. Congratulations go to Chris Swatfager, Pat Busker, and Mary Christian for their standout performances at this stage of the round. Their coordinated efforts and careful execution on each hole set a high standard for the day’s play and provided a memorable moment in the club’s celebrations of Independence Day.
The back nine featured its own dramatic finish, with the winning team once again rising to the occasion. The tie was resolved by using a handicap hole to break the deadlock, and the trio of Nancy Wesley, Susan Westland, and Barb Ruhter emerged victorious, posting an adjusted score of 35. Their success on the back nine underscored the consistency and determination of the group as they navigated the course under the festive banner of the Fourth of July.
In addition to the main competition, several notable chip-ins added to the day’s excitement. Carrie Schwirtz sank a key shot on hole No. 14, while Chris Swatfager delivered a timely chip-in on hole No. 9. These Mike-in-the-sky moments contributed to the celebratory atmosphere and gave players additional opportunities to showcase precision and nerve under pressure.
The “Red, White, and Blue” format proved to be a delightful twist on the standard golf round, combining patriotic cheer with skillful play and strategic thinking. Members enjoyed the chance to mix friendly rivalries with collaborative camaraderie as they celebrated the nation’s birthday and the club’s enduring fellowship on the greens. The event highlighted the best of Meadow Greens-Ramsey’s golfing community: teamwork, fair competition, and a shared love of the game, all wrapped in a festive tribute to America’s the 250th birthday. As the sun set on a day of spirited golf, participants looked forward to future rounds that would continue to blend celebration with sport and keep the tradition alive for years to come.
